Thread: Trans Question

    Trans Question

I am interested in building a Mini V-Tec, but I prefer an auto trans. Everywhere I've looked says you need a manual, is there a reason for this?

May be a noob question, but thanks for answering anyway.

Only reason is, it is not a popular choice; probably a lot heavier and slower too. I do not know anything about the Honda automatics, or if they will even fit. Actually, I don't even know if you can get an automatic for the B series VTEC motors? If so, They would be rare.

I don't think it would be that much heavier, but I'm not looking to race. I may go with a D series anyway as it will cost a lot less. I'll let you guys know as I figure it out

Just go for a D series, it's still fast and it's cheaper to maintain and to toy with!

Most people are building a vtec mini for performance reasons so not many choose automatics. The auto trans are a little heavier and larger than the manuals. Fitment may be an issue in the standard frames that are available. You might have to modify a minitec or go the custom route. Honda auto trannies don't do very well on modified engines either as they can't hold much power. With a stock motor they are fine.

B series vtec auto transmissions were available in other parts of the world and most importers have or can get them.
