Re: Zcars-Who In The USA Has One

Ive only been able to track down 6 actual Zcars conversions in the US

Z cars VTEC CA Modified Race/Track Spec (my car the only VTEC Non-Monte Ive found in the US, under construction)
Z cars Busa kit Seattle, WA

    1- MN (JimFai)
And a front engine VTEC and back engine VTEC version in Florida too

There was a copper colored R1 powered one being built in Massachusetts somewhere a couple years ago ... I don't know if it was ever completed though.

willie in michigan has a home made replica z cars set up with a busa that he is building, his neighbor has a complete zcars setup he shipped over and willie copied it, i have a knock off zcars set up in my mini marcos, i now have it completely welded inplace, the motor runs with everything hooked up including axel shafts except the radiator which i have been waiting for the aux pump and it is due to arrive tomorrow so next week i will be driving it. mine has a 1000cc honda cbx

so add 1 true z cars in MI

1 knock off each in MI and MN

Edit made and the one I had up there was for Aric, Willies neighbor. Added Willies to the home version but I think its an actual Zcars but modified to Monte Specs.....

Jim, the CBX should sound unbelievable in a Mini. one word of caution; the CBX motors have very marginal rods; We had to fit Carillos in all our modified or boosted motors or there would be certain death to the motor is short order. The clutches were also weak compared to the other big sport bike motors we modified.

We will be doing a Busa/Mini conversion next and are looking for details on the diff setups, donor vehicles, modifications for sealing and machine work details for sprocket, cush drive, inboard brake discs, etc, and close up pics. Anyone using the Tagert, Sport-racer, diffs?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
    Cheers, Steve

thanks steve, you sound like you have a lot of knowledge on bike motors, i have none. i bought this as an abandoned project, it does have a the zcars rear transaxel that the PO purchased from them. the cbx was chosen because the clutch was assumed to be better (heavier than an r1 or busa) than most were using, but i see what you are saying compared to the big crusier bikes. anyway, i was planning on using it for track day/autox/hillclimb only. send me a pm if you would as i have several questions for you if you don't mind? fillmore@visi.com is my email

mine is for sale now, on mini mania site and ebay, reserve is way less than the buy it now, very reasonable.

since mine is one of the older and probably the oldest bike ones this side of the pond i have learned a very fair amount having driven it over a thousand miles now. i had talked to many in the uk about the pros and cons of these after watching them and wanting one for years. will be interesting to speak with others over here after they get theirs done.

jim, we will be doing a busa mini soon. would like to hear about your experience; mainly about the clutch, chain, sprockets, diff and trany gears; maintenance frequency, durability, any problems or anoyances. Did you use the CBX motor?
    Thanks, Steve
