So here is the deal. I've come across a really good deal on a b16a combo. I belongs to a buddy who has a crx that had swapped it in 2 summers ago. He wants a b18 for his crx, and one driving factor is the lsd that he can get with his new engine/tranny combo. He's going to give me the engine, tranny, ecu, wiring harness, msd ignition and CTR pulley. The motor is healthy and dyno'd at 155hp at the wheels this past fall. My cost will be $900.
The downside is there isn't a limited slip.
I autox.....and every part of me says I'll want a LSD.
Phantom grips look cheap, but I see concerns about them....so I don't know what to trust.
Will I regret going without a lsd? I'm assuming it would be a hell of lot easier to put one in, before I mate the motor to the car.
The problem is the wife just might kill me if I opt for a quaife, that cost more than the engine and tranny combined.

I guess my question is: is it a pain to put in an lsd after the fact? should I be looking for a tranny with lsd already? Is the phantom a wise choice? and is the install straightforward?

I had the same concerns; I didn't want to go with the Phantom Grip. I ended up going with an ITR ( Integra Type R ) LSD off ebay, which is almost as cheap, and still super good quality.

I'm thinking without an LSD you'd have a lot of difficulty keeping the power down.

If you're also interested in a different FD, check out KAAZ as well.

Not as cheap as Flea-Bay, but an option if you want "new".

if you don't put it in, you'll never miss it.
My car does not have one and is more controlable than cars with lsd.
For some reason the cars with lsd want to go all over the place, while mine is very predictable.

I suspect it where some of the folk experience some of the "dart" along with the alignment settings.

Tough call for me. Putting in a phantom grip isn't a big deal.
I think I may buy a phantom grip, if I find the wheel spin unacceptable this season. I won't have any labor charge to put it in as I have a connection, so I think I may try to go without first.
I'm running r25a compound hoosiers, so the grip will be there if I keep the suspension stiff(I hope). The car was always very flat in the corners, and I didn't have issue with grip in the 1380 without lsd. So its worth a gamble.

Cornering will never be the same once you add th extra weight to the front.

Thats why you need a light kit to start with. I am down to only 20 pounds over stock so far, and using a gear type LSD. Can't coment on how well it works yet.

I am shooting for June(Mini Meet West) I could use some help with wiring or finding diagrams though.
BTW, I picked up a straight 85 CRX with a cable B-16 in it. No title and not running, but lots of "Boy Racer" parts, if you know anyone interested, I would like to sell the whole thing.
Cheers
