Great lookin' Mini. Can you post up a side pic? I'd like to get a better veiw of your 15" wheels. Did you have to do any body mods to run the 15's?

thanks! i have more pics here:
http://www.vtecminis.com/gallery/index.php?cat=10001

as for using 15" wheels, in my case a couple additional mods were needed in addition to already being tubbed and using the minitec front flip. when using a 195/45/15 tire over the more common 185/60/13 tire, it's ~3/16" taller. with this in mind, it will rub against the rear radius arm. a small amount of grinding was required to achieve the required clearance. however if you were to use a used tire with less tread, grinding is not necessary. depending on the wheel you get, spacers may be needed to properly adapt them to the mini hub.

How is the handling with the big wheels? In my experience the 13 inch did not handle as well as the 10's, so curious to see what moving up to 15's would do the handling..

As a member of the commisioning crew, my Father was a "plank owner" of CVB 41, the USS Midway. I now have two reasons to get to San Diego!

the larger wheels will naturally handle not as well as a smaller wheel due to a higher unsprung weight. i'm using them primarily for gearing and looks. the larger diameter does aid when cruising on the freeway since this is my daily commuter, believe or not. at speed of 80mph in 5th gear, i rev at ~4000rpm. however, even with a larger diameter wheel, the handling is still decent.

due to having the minitec big brake kit, the smallest usable wheel diameter that i can use is 13". i still have the original 13x7 superlights wheels that came with the car which i plan to run for track days.

They re-fitted her with the angled flight deck a while back and after her active duty was over, she was a training vessel before being de-commissioned. I didn't know she escaped the scrapper's torch. I've been aboard the Yorktown, docked as a museum in Charleston, SC. She's the previous class and somewhat smaller. Someday I'll be able to compare the two!
Now... back to Minis!!

Great looking car Shon,

Can you tell me more about your Tilton brake setup? I'm interested to know if it is 2 or 3 pedal, hanging or firewall mounted, etc..?

Thanks!
