I have been wanting to expose my cam gears and I have a few questions?
I am thinking of putting some new Cam gears on and I would love to have them be exposed.. I see some (william) has done this.. My questions are the following:
1. How did you cut the valve cover?
2. How did you cut the plastic timing belt cover?
3. Do you have a template? Or can you give me some advise on how to to this??
I have already got an extra valve cover and I order a new plastic timing belt cover (top half) Now all I need is some advise on how to do this task.... I have some ideas but any other advise would be great.

first you will need a 2.5" to 3" round object to use as a template, drill the biggest hole you can get in the valve cover and plastic cover, then finish the half moon off with a dremel tool and file...a lot of patience is optional...have fun!!!!

I started on the project this weekend. I got my new valve cover and timing belt cover installed on Saturday. So today I worked on cutting the half moons out of the plastic timing belt cover. It was actually very easy.. I think it came out really nice now for the hard part how to cut the half moons out of the valve cover? I am going to ask a few good friends of mine what would work best for this.. Anyway here is a picture of my progress so far.

Here is another picture of the Plastic timing belt cover.. (top Piece only) with the two half moons cut out. I used a dremel to do all this work.. It took about 1 hour total to get it just right.
Any advise on how to cut the valve cover would be appricated.

Maybe a Dremel will work for the valve cover too?. I love those tools.

Stock up on the reinforced cutting wheels and both grit sanding drums and go to it!! One guy at work told another "Yeah, NJ did an engine swap with a hammer, Dremel tool and JB Weld!"
If you check out my build log you'll see numerous mentions of that little jewel.

couldn't you just use a large Holesaw??

How would you to use a holesaw to cut a partial hole in these pieces with no pilot hole?
Maybe a floor post drill with some sort of wooden jig to hold the parts steady?
I'd wager it would be easier as described. If I get to that point, it would be easier for me to take the valve cover to work and put it on a horizontal mill.
BTW, I re-furbished the original crinkle red JDM cover from my B18. It's available with the stock plug wire cover and a low-buck carbon fibre one. Post if anyone's interested.

Can someone post picture of this on an engine? I am curious what it looks like.
